Fiji is made up of 332 islands of which 106 are inhabited, which means there’s plenty of choice when it comes to choosing your holiday. The main island, or what’s considered mainland Fiji, is Viti Levu and it makes a great jumping off point for other islands in the region, which can be either quite untouched or a little more family friendly.
Here’s some of our favourite places for getting on island time.
On Viti Levu:
Nadi
You’ll find the city of Nadi on the largest island in the region, Viti Levu. It’s where the international airport is located and home to plenty of dining, shopping, entertainment and nightlife. Proximity to Denarau Island, retail therapy and a wide range of accommodation make this a great holiday base or place to kick off your adventures before heading to a remote island beach.
Coral Coast
On the south west corner of the island of Viti Levu, the Coral Coast is one of the most popular holiday spots in Fiji for a reason. The beaches are a mixture of white sand and coral, offering something for everyone in the family including those who want to laze by the beach and those who are keen to get in a spot of snorkelling. You’ll also find a beach to suit your pleasure – take the kids to one of the lagoon-like spots or head to the action at one of the surfing beaches. You’ll also be able to experience island life here with plenty of authentic Fijian villages nearby.

Nearby Islands:
Denaru Island
Denaru Island is just off the main island of Viti Levu. Denaru Island is connected to Viti Levu via a causeway and from here it’s also easy to access the nearby surrounding islands of Yasawa or Mamanuca. It’s where you’ll find enough restaurants and shopping to keep you satisfied for your whole trip.

Yasawa Islands
This remote island is perfect for that off-the-grid getaway. There’s not much in the way of shopping but plenty of outdoor and watersports activities for the kids! You’ll likely recognise the beauty of Yasawa from The Blue Lagoon and it’s easily accessible via boat or seaplane.
Mamanuca Islands
The Mamanuca Islands are probably the most popular in Fiji and you might recognise some of the landscapes from the movie, Cast Away or TV show, Survivor. They are easily accessible from the main airport, but still feel like you’re on a desert island! Surfers can head to Cloudbreak while families will have plenty of beachside options for swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing.
Taveuni Island
Located on Taveuni Island, Waiyevo is the best of all worlds. While it’s close to the airport, it’s also home to some beautiful stretches of white, sandy beaches as well as golf, restaurants, resorts and shopping. Be sure to take in the villages, sugar cane fields and lagoons driving around Taveuni Island on your way to Waiyevo.
